Researchers at LUMC and NKI-AVL developed Robotic SPECT, a novel imaging technique that improves tumor visualization during robot-assisted surgery. Intraoperatively measurements of the accumulated tumor-targeting tracer support the reconstruction of 3D images that reveal both tumor location and its depth, enabling more precise surgical resection. Robotic SPECT outperformed existing imaging methods in patients with prostate cancer and may be applicable to other tumor types in the future.
